Do your students have a limited vocabulary? Are they able to use more formal and academic language appropriate to your subject?
There is a difference between everyday English and the more formal language that students often need to use for academic success. Students need to be able to use both, to build their vocabulary and to make links between words. Regular explicit focus on vocabulary development is essential for EAL and SEN pupils. However, all pupils need this, including those on Advanced Level courses.
The resources show how departments incorporate vocabulary development into their lessons, as starters, plenaries or main activities. Many of the activities can be used as templates and adapted for your department.
